Run-to-the-Sun Event: Run to the Sun Last Weekend in May
Newquay, Cornwall, UK

The largest Custom Car and VW Festival in the UK, bringing thousands of visitors to the town for a weekend of fun and entertainment. Last year 100,000 (official police figures) people came to Newquay in Cornwall to enjoy a weekend of Cars, Music, Sea, Surf and water pistols. The events include exciting escape and evasion tactics to avoid becoming soaked by the numerous water pistols.

This year you could be one of them, so if you like getting wet this is the event for you! The police may want to try to stop the use of water pistols, but the bad publicity fallout could seriously damage Newquay's image as a fun town. Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, became a dull backward area after the police started harrassing the Spring Break visitors. This proved bad for business. Let's hope Newquay won't lose it's appeal to young people that way. The Run to the Sun event was forged from a concept by VW guru Keith Seume and former surfing journalist Dave Chappel.

Born from a synergy between the beach and the car, Run To The Sun has evolved to become not only the largest VW/Custom Car Festival in Europe but also one of the greatest dance music festivals in the UK. Still keeping its roots, feel and anything goes philosophy, Run To The Sun is confirmed as the first of the major UK Summer Festivals. Each year since the event started it has grown considerably. This year looks set to break all records, and with the Newquay Surf Festival in full swing on Fistral Beach, there is no better time to get into Newquay, get into the vibe and party. Friday
The fun starts with events in the main arena at Trevelgue. By now there should be a few more Volkswagens than usual cruising around town.

Saturday
The main feature of Saturday is the cruise from London to Newquay which leaves reading services on the M4 at 09:30 picking up more vehicles at each service station on route. The convoy can attract in excess of 100 cars creating a line of traffic over 8KM long a major specticel on the bank holiday roads. The entertainment continues at Trevelgue and Volkswagons take over on Newquay's roads leaving a fun filled afternoon of cruising and dodging water pistols. Sunday
Head for the show'n'shine at Tregunnel Car Park just off Mount Wise with live entertainment. Judging for the event will take place here so this excellent place to be to view the very best customised volkswagons
